You will need:- - White air drying clay (500g) - Rolling pin - Knife or clay tool for cutting - Aluminium pie tin or plastic bowl - Paint |
Roll out a block of clay and using a knife or clay tool cut 6 strips of the same width. |
Place 2 strips side by side across the aluminium tray. Carefully weave another strip under and over across the centre of the tray. Continue adding strips until you have used all 6 strips. |
Use your leftover clay to make a rim around the top of your basket. Join the rim to the basket by scoring both pieces & 'gluing' together with water. |
Once the piece is finished you can begin painting. Clay can be painted whilst it is still wet, but paint cannot be layered on itself. You have to wait until the clay has dried before you can paint the under side. |
The basket will lift out easily once it is dry, but this will take at least a full day. |

Many thanks to Liz Wensley for this project. |
